Independent Ford workshop in Berlin - inspection, maintenance and repair

Ford develops many key technologies independently - from the EcoBoost turbo petrol engines to the EcoBlue diesel engines and the PowerShift dual-clutch transmission. In some areas, however, Ford co-operates with other manufacturers: the current Transit Custom shares its platform with the VW Transporter, and the new Explorer Electric is based on Volkswagen's MEB architecture. For our workshop, this means a double advantage - we know both Ford's own technology and the VW Group platforms from day-to-day practice. We have the necessary diagnostic systems and special tools for the current Ford model ranges. For spare parts, we use original Ford components or parts of equivalent quality in accordance with the manufacturer's standard. Ford provides for regular service intervals based on time and mileage. Newer models also calculate the service date using the FordPass system based on actual driving data. In our workshop, we carry out the full scope of inspections in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications:

• Oil change with the prescribed engine oil specification (Ford often uses its own WSS standard)
• Replacement of air, oil, fuel and cabin filters
• Checking the brake system including brake fluid
• Checking fluid levels, cooling circuit and drive belts
• Electronic fault diagnosis with recording of safety-relevant data
• Model-dependent additional tests depending on equipment and drive type

In Ford commercial vehicles such as the Transit and Transit Custom, maintenance work is often more extensive due to the higher level of stress. Here we also check the condition of leaf springs, drive shafts and sliding door mechanisms - components that are subject to increased wear in commercial use.

Your manufacturer's warranty remains fully valid when serviced in our independent workshop. The European Block Exemption Regulation (BER) safeguards this right, provided that all work is carried out professionally and in accordance with factory specifications. We document all inspection data in full in the digital service booklet or in the classic checkbook.

Focus, Fiesta and EcoSport with PowerShift dual clutch transmission (DCT) have specific maintenance requirements that we routinely cover. Shift judder, delayed response behaviour and clutch wear are among the most common symptoms. We carry out transmission oil changes, clutch diagnostics and, if necessary, clutch replacement.

In the 1.0 EcoBoost, the timing belt running in the oil (wet belt) is a known wear issue - timely replacement prevents serious engine damage.

With the 1.5 EcoBoost, coolant loss can also occur due to defects in the cylinder head gasket or the engine block. Experience has shown that EcoBlue diesels have problems with the EGR system and the diesel particulate filter, and with higher mileage also with the AdBlue SCR system and turbocharger.

The range of repairs also includes

• Brake replacement and wheel alignment
• Work on the chassis, shock absorbers and steering
• Replacement of clutch and transmission components
• Repairs to the exhaust system including catalytic converter and lambda probe

We repair bodywork and paint damage in our in-house paint shop at the Lichtenberg site. We also carry out major repairs on the Ford Ranger and Transit, which, as work vehicles, frequently suffer from stone chips, transport damage and heavy wear and tear. In the event of insurance claims, we handle the entire claims management process - from damage documentation to communication with the insurer.

With the Mustang Mach-E, Ford has launched its first fully electric SUV on the European market in 2021, built on a specially developed electric platform. The E-Transit takes a different approach: it is based on the tried-and-tested Transit architecture, which has been adapted for the electric drivetrain. Both concepts place specific demands on the workshop service. Our team has the required high-voltage qualification to work on these and all other electrified Ford models, including the plug-in hybrid variants of the Kuga and Explorer.

The Mustang Mach-E utilises a high-voltage battery with an active liquid cooling system, the proper functioning of which is crucial for range and battery life. We check the condition of the battery, carry out software updates and diagnose the electric drivetrain. In the case of e-transit, additional stress factors are added due to the frequent commercial use - such as frequent charging under high load and increased brake wear due to the vehicle weight. In the case of plug-in hybrids, we monitor the interaction between the combustion engine and electric motor. If the actual consumption deviates significantly from the WLTP specifications, we narrow down the cause - from the battery capacity and tyre condition to the CO₂-relevant emission values of the exhaust system.

For Ford diesel models with EcoBlue engines in particular, we recommend checking the particulate filter before the exhaust emissions test (AU) - a loaded DPF can lead to increased emissions and thus to a failed test. A DEKRA inspector carries out the main inspection (HU) and AU directly in our workshop. A technical pre-check also uncovers further defects before they lead to a chargeable follow-up inspection.

A seasonal wheel service (change, balancing, storage) and air conditioning maintenance (disinfection, refrigerant, filter change) complete our range of services. Our car care service is available for the professional preparation of your Ford - from hand washing to paint sealing. Due to their high resale value and frequent commercial use, the Ford Ranger and Transit are among the models most at risk of theft. The Bear-Lock anti-theft device offers a mechanical retrofit solution that effectively secures the transmission or steering against unauthorised access.
