With the new MG4 Electric, based on the completely newly developed MSP platform, the MG brand is entering the important C segment in Europe. It is an intelligent choice for drivers who opt for a modern, electric lifestyle.

The MG4 Electric offers a comfortable, spacious interior with enough room for a family of five, yet boasts slim and sporty proportions.

The low vehicle height is made possible by particularly flat batteries: The MG4 Electric uses the most compact battery developed by SAIC Motor in terms of height. With a height of just 110 mm, it is currently the thinnest in its class.

The sophisticated “ONE PACK” battery system

“ONE PACK” is an innovatively designed battery. Thanks to the horizontal arrangement of the battery cells, a battery height of just 110 mm can be achieved. This is leading in the industry and enables a significant increase in effective space utilisation. In conjunction with the redesign of the corresponding cooling system, the “ONE PACK” battery offers three key advantages: ultra-high integration, ultra-long service life and “Zero Thermal Runaway” safety protection against thermal runaway.

Ready for future technologies

The MSP platform and the associated components are also prepared for the implementation of future technologies. For example, the system voltage of the highly efficient electronic drive unit, which includes 8-layer hairpin technology and a special oil cooling system, can be upgraded from 400 V to 800 V. This will allow the battery to be charged even faster in future. The powertrain can also support future BaaS (Battery as a Service) battery exchange systems. The integrated service-oriented architecture (SOA) enables vehicles to receive lifelong updates “over the air” (OTA). Last but not least, the platform is also prepared for Pixel Point Cloud Comprehensive Environment Mapping (PP CEM), which is required for advanced autonomous driving solutions.

Technical details

The MG4 Electric is currently undergoing a final endurance test of around 120,000 kilometres under various conditions in Europe. The MG4 Electric is the first MG Motor model for the European market to be based on the MSP platform for battery electric vehicles developed by parent company SAIC Motor. The intelligent and modular architecture offers many advantages in terms of flexibility, space utilisation, safety, driving experience, weight savings and the use of future technologies.

Its scalable body is suitable for wheelbases from 2,650 to 3,100 mm. This makes it possible to design different body styles for different segments on the same platform, from hatchbacks and notchbacks to SUVs and vans. For this reason, the Modular Scalable Platform (MSP) plays a crucial role in MG Motor’s growth strategy for Europe.
